The Tao of Pong
The Tao of Pong (play trailer)

Synopsis:
In 1988, 15-year-old Hank Houska (Paulo Costanzo) was known as the ping-pong prodigy. But after losing his temper and deliberately hitting a ball at his opponent, Maurice DeSalvo (Jake Busey), he was disqualified and never fulfilled his dream of being the best. Years later, Hank lives in a tiny apartment, works at a car wash, and has lost all self-confidence. When Maurice shows up at the car wash where Hank works, picks up on the girl of his dreams, and laughs at Hank’s dismal job, Hank vows to get revenge by finally beating Maurice at the upcoming Table Tennis Championship. Hank goes on a quest to learn from the one man that has beaten Maurice, a Taoist laundromat owner named Lao Tzu (Keone Young). When his training begins, Hank can’t understand what he’s being shown. Lao seems more interested in having him read the ‘I Ching’, and meditate than play ping pong. What ensues is a comedy about Ping-Pong, self-esteem, and the capricious nature of destiny. Though we can’t change our destiny, we can learn to embrace it with open arms. Or as Lao might say, “When you are on a journey and the end keeps getting further away, then you must realize that the real end is the journey.”
